There’s nothing I love more than looking back at the recipes you all have made the most throughout the year. It’s fascinating to me to see which recipes you liked the most vs the ones I thought would be the most popular (I’m often wrong, though I’m getting better at guessing!) This list has decidedly more chocolate than last year’s, and I couldn’t be happier about that. Anyway, without further ado, here are the 10 most popular Northern Ginger recipes from the past year.
#10: Mud Pie Cake
Coming in at #10 is Mud Pie Cake. This chocolate-lover’s dessert has layers of deeply chocolatey cake (adapted from Ina Garten’s famous Beatty’s Chocolate Cake) soaked with a coffee-Kahlua mixture, chocolate pudding, chocolate crumbles (with a decidedly Oreo-like flavor), and whipped cream. It’s a showstopper of a cake, inside and out.

#9: Espresso White Chocolate Chip Cookies
Next is probably my favorite cookie recipe I’ve created so far. It makes me SO happy that you seem to love it too! These cookies taste like a white chocolate mocha in cookie form. They’re sweet (but not too sweet), creamy, and chock full of coffee flavor (in the form of instant espresso powder, finely ground espresso, and brewed espresso!). Bake these for the coffee lover in your life: they’ll love them!

#8: Homemade Cinnamon Marshmallows
Homemade marshmallows are a revelation and I can’t stop making them! If you haven’t tried making your own, maybe 2024 will be your year? Soft, pillowy, and spiked with ground cinnamon, these particular ‘mallows are the perfect addition to your coffee, hot chocolate, chai, and s’mores!

#7: Kahlua Chocolate Chip Cookies
This recipe has been in the top 10 from the beginning, and I’m not surprised. Not only are they DELICIOUS (Kahlua, espresso, and chocolate…what better combo is there?), they’re a super simple cookie to make: no chilling, no extra steps…just mix, bake, and eat!

#6: Double Chocolate Mocha Crunch Cake
Ok, you guys really loved the chocolate-coffee combo this year (and honestly, same). Coming in at #6 is a newbie to the blog and my birthday cake last year, the Double Chocolate Mocha Crunch Cake. Chocolate cake is always a winner, but this one takes it to another level with espresso cream cheese filling, crunchy mocha crumbles, and a silky chocolate buttercream frosting.

#5: Cinnamon Toasted Flax Seed
This is another recipe that’s been a blog favorite since wayyy back in 2019. This toasted, cinnamon-sugar-coated flax seed recipe is inspired by the show “Psych,” (IYKYK) and it’s completely and utterly addictive. It’s simple and quick to make, and it makes a tasty snack all on its own or a delicious topping for ice cream, yogurt, oatmeal, fruit…the list goes on.

#4: Maple Pecan Blondies
This is my new favorite fall treat, and it seems that you all loved it too, since it’s the fourth most popular recipe on the blog! These chewy blondies have brown butter, real maple syrup, and toasted pecans, and they’re every bit as delicious as they sound.

#3: Mini Almond Biscotti
Coming in at #3 are these little cuties, Mini Almond Biscotti! They’re crunchy mini biscotti chock full of toasted almonds plus a secret ingredient that really amps up the almond flavor (okay it’s not a secret, it’s anise extract). These mini treats are great for snacking on their own, but are even better dipped in your favorite hot beverage.

#2: Old Fashioned Gingerbread Cookies
This one doesn’t surprise me one bit. Who doesn’t love a good Old-Fashioned Gingerbread Cookie, especially at Christmas? Especially when they’re perfectly spiced and covered in a lemon glaze? This one is my great-grandma’s recipe and it’s perfect.

#1: Mini Apple Crumble Pies
And finally, the new blog favorite: Mini Apple Crumble Pies! These little gems have been the blog favorite pie for two years now, but this year they take the cake (see what I did there? ;)) as the #1 Northern Ginger recipe. They have a flaky, buttery crust, spiced apple filling, and a brown sugar oat topping, and they’re the best way to eat an apple. (And you know what they say, “An apple pie a day keeps the doctor away”…or something like that.)

Thanks for baking along with me this year, friends! Cheers to another great year of bakes!
