Top 10 Northern Ginger Recipes of 2022

It’s that time again…time to take a look back at the top moments of the year! Here on the blog, that means rounding up the most-viewed recipes from the last 12 months. Now, I know that statistics aren’t exciting or sexy, but I love getting to the end of the year and looking at my blog stats to see what recipes were your favorites over the past year. It’s SO fun (and interesting) to see which recipes you all liked, and compare the list with which recipes I thought would be the most popular. (Spoiler: most of the time, I’m wrong.) Anyway, without further ado, here are the Northern Ginger recipes you all most loved in 2022!

Dark Chocolate Salted Caramel Cake

#10: Dark Chocolate Salted Caramel Cake

I have to admit, I’m a bit surprised at the lack of chocolate on this list…this cake being only one of two chocolate recipes (well, three if you count white chocolate).

At any rate, coming in at number 10 is my birthday cake from last year! This is my favorite dark chocolate layer cake (Ina Garten’s) with an incredible salted caramel cream cheese frosting (adapted from a recipe in Benjamina Ebuehi’s cookbook, The New Way To Cake). Decadent and luscious, this cake is perfect for birthdays, holidays, or any kind of celebration. Get the recipe: https://northernginger.com/dark-chocolate-salted-caramel-cake/

Cinnamon Marshmallows

#9: Homemade Cinnamon Marshmallows

Next on the list are these Homemade Cinnamon Marshmallows! If you’ve made them (or my Peppermint Swirl Marshmallows), you know how amazing and life-changing homemade marshmallows can be.

These marshmallows, in particular, are soft, pillowy, and spiked with ground cinnamon. They make the perfect addition to your coffee, hot chocolate, or chai. OR bring them to your next campfire for an over-the-top s’mores experience! Get the recipe: https://northernginger.com/homemade-cinnamon-marshmallows/

Espresso White Chocolate Chip Cookies

#8: Espresso White Chocolate Chip Cookies

This recipe rose to the top 10 fast — it’s only been around since June!

Like a White Chocolate Mocha in cookie form, these cookies are sweet (but not too sweet), creamy, and chock full of coffee flavor. In fact, they have coffee in three forms: instant espresso powder, finely ground espresso, and brewed espresso. They’re definitely a coffee-lover’s dream! Mini Almond Biscotti

#7: Mini Almond Biscotti

This recipe is a new one this year too, and apparently you all loved it! These crunchy, delicious mini biscotti are chock full of toasted almonds, plus a little almond extract to amp up the almond flavor. They’re great for snacking on their own, but are even better dipped in your favorite coffee.

Salted Brown Butter Rice Krispie Bars

#6: Salted Brown Butter Rice Krispie Bars

This recipe was last year’s #1 favorite. Though it’s fallen from the top slot, it’s still a well-used recipe on the blog.

These tasty treats are a grown-up version of everyone’s favorite marshmallowy cereal treat. Nutty brown butter, a hit of sea salt, and a whole lot of marshmallows make these the best Rice Krispie treats you’ve ever had. Mini Apple Crumble Pies

#5: Mini Apple Crumble Pies

This year’s favorite pie award goes to these mini-but-mighty apple pies! With a flaky, buttery crust, spiced apple filling, and brown sugar oat topping, they’re a favorite for good reason. These cuties are perfect for a holiday table, summer picnic, or after-school snack.

Kahlua Chocolate Chip Cookies

#4: Kahlua Chocolate Chip Cookies

This was one of the first recipes I posted on the blog back in 2019, and they remain an OG favorite. They’re a super simple chocolate chip cookie that’s spiked with Kahlua, laced with espresso powder, and stuffed full of chocolate chips. Essentially, they’re an everyday favorite that just a little more special.

soft gingerbread amaretti cookies

#3: Soft Gingerbread Amaretti Cookies

One of the only gluten-free recipes on the site (because I’m not skilled at GF baking and they’re naturally GF), these delicious little cookies should be at the top of your holiday cookie baking list. They’re gingerbread-inspired version of a classic soft and chewy amaretti cookie, and not only are they tasty but they’re also super easy to make.

Old-Fashioned Gingerbread Cookies

#2: Old-Fashioned Gingerbread Cookies

You all really loved gingerbread cookies this year! Which isn’t actually surprising because a.) they’re delicious and b.) December (a.k.a., holiday baking season) is by FAR the busiest month on the blog. (Guess I’d better make more holiday recipes?)

From my great-grandma’s recipe box, these old-fashioned gingerbread cookies are sure to get you in the holiday spirit (even if you’re celebrating Christmas in July). Get the recipe: https://northernginger.com/old-fashioned-gingerbread-cookies/

Cinnamon Toasted Flax Seed

#1: Cinnamon Toasted Flax Seed

Number 1 on this year’s list of Northern Ginger recipes was, honestly, a surprise to me. Not because it’s not a great recipe, but because it’s an unassuming one. A sleeper hit, if you will. This cinnamon-sugar-coated toasted flax seed recipe is inspired by a treat in the show “Psych,” and it’s completely and utterly addictive.
