Top 10 Northern Ginger Recipes of 2021
At the risk of sounding cliché, I can’t believe another year is coming to a close. Weren’t we just here? It feels like the past year has gone by in a blur…and yet it was as full as a year can be, with friends, family, work, small adventures, and, of course, baking. As a way of looking back at 2021, I’ve gathered all of your favorite recipes from this year into one blog post. The following are the 10 northern ginger recipes you all made the most this year.
#10 – Fig Cake With Cream Cheese Frosting
This unassuming little cake made its debut last spring in celebration of my work’s 10-year anniversary. It’s a single-layer almond-scented cake dotted with chopped dried figs and topped with a thin layer of fig jam and a pile of lush cream cheese frosting. If you haven’t tried it yet, now’s your chance: https://northernginger.com/fig-cake/.
#9 – Buckwheat Rhubarb Muffins With Pecan Streusel
An oldie but a goodie, these muffins have been a favorite on the blog since almost the beginning. It was one of my early posts, and all I can say is that both my writing and my photography skills have improved since then. But while the photos and writing aren’t what I’d like them to be, the recipe itself is fantastic: https://northernginger.com/buckwheat-rhubarb-muffins-with-pecan-streusel/.
#8 – Amaretto Dream Cookies
Another one from 2019, these cookies are one of my personal favorites. I typically make them in the fall, but they’re delicious all year long. https://northernginger.com/amaretto-dream-cookies/
#7 – Garam Masala Peanut Butter Cookies
A twist on classic peanut butter cookies, you all have loved these cookies for the past two years: https://northernginger.com/garam-masala-peanut-butter-cookies/.
#6 – Soft Gingerbread Amaretti Cookies
Not one, but two gingerbread cookies made the top 10 this year, including these soft, chewy, gluten-free beauties: https://northernginger.com/soft-gingerbread-amaretti-cookies/.
#5 – Fennel Pesto
One of only a handful of savory recipes I’ve posted, this twist on pesto has become not only one of your favorites, but mine as well. https://northernginger.com/fennel-pesto/
#4 – Kahlua Chocolate Chip Cookies
Another of the first recipes I posted when I started the blog almost 3 years ago, these simple, yet surprisingly delicious, cookies have remained a favorite. https://northernginger.com/kahlua-chocolate-chip-cookies/
#3 – Cinnamon Toasted Flax Seed
This one is a healthier treat — toasted flax seeds covered in a cinnamon-sugar coating. If you ever watched the show Psych, you know this as Shawn’s favorite snack. https://northernginger.com/cinnamon-toasted-flax-seed/
#2 – Old-Fashioned Gingerbread Cookies
The most-baked recipe of the 2021 holiday season was my great-grandma Rena’s gingerbread cookies. Whether you make them with the suggested lemon glaze or not, they’re a holiday treat worthy of Santa’s cookie plate. https://northernginger.com/old-fashioned-gingerbread-cookies/
#1 – Salted Brown Butter Rice Krispie Bars
And this year’s favorite recipe by far? These gooey, marshmallowy, brown-buttery Rice Krispie treats. I have to say, y’all have great taste — these bars are insanely delicious. If you haven’t made them yet, consider this your gentle reminder to try them out. https://northernginger.com/salted-brown-butter-rice-krispie-bars/
